About me

RAJ RABINDRANATH – CREATIVE DIRECTOR

CONCEPT • CREATIVITY • CRAFT

Proudly, a hands-on Creative, I conceive, write and visualize ideas. I write Brand Strategy and Brand Identity concepts as well as scripts and copy for Integrated Campaigns. Using my skill in Photoshop and Adobe Creative Suite I do my own art direction, typography and design. This versatility has helped me either successfully fit into, or lead, various fully-integrated creative departments including Digital, Social, Design, UX/UI Design, DM, CRM and Retail.

With over 17 years’ experience in Consumer Marketing, Brand Communications and Advertising on an extensive range of brands – big and small, I believe in insight-led and data-informed creative briefs and insist on working closely with Strategy and Planning specialists to achieve this. My biggest strength is using my knowledge to offer invaluable advice and innovative, results-based solutions to my clients and employers.

I’m a firm believer in a group dynamic and my approach to creativity hinges on being part of, or in building, a strong team based on mentorship and mutual respect. I believe in empowering creative people and granting them the trust and guidance necessary to produce brilliant, effective work and I’m confident there can always be a harmonious balance between creative integrity and a successful business objective.

My journey into the creative world of Commercial Art, Advertising, Marketing and Communications started with a National Diploma in Graphic Design. The aesthetic and discipline of design has shaped and influenced my own visual aesthetic and ideation style – honing my craft at progressive agencies like TBWA Hunt Lascaris and Leo Burnett RedNail on clients like Coca-Cola, Nando’s, the South African Broadcasting Corporation, South African Airways, and MTN (South Africa’s biggest Telco).

Recruited by Young & Rubicam to help set up their first fully-integrated advertising offering in Sydney, I then joined iconic Australian ad agency Singleton Ogilvy & Mather (later Ogilvy Australia) where I was Creative Group Head and Head of Art for many successful years. During my time there I’ve made some of Australia’s and the world’s biggest brands look good. Among them, Guinness, Coca-Cola, Qantas, American Express, Telstra, Nestlé and GlaxoSmithKline.

I seized an opportunity in 2010 to join Shift Communications (later Moon Communications), a purpose-built agency by the WPP Group, as Executive Creative Director. My clients there included, Moet Hennessey, QBE, Westfield, Kimberly Clark and Macquarie Bank.

In 2015 I joined Banjo Advertising as Creative Director on Crown Casinos & Resorts, Nando’s, AMP, TAFE and The Real Pet Food Company amongst others. I have also pitched for and won a variety of NSW Government projects for Banjo including Safework, Road Safety, Transport NSW, and B-Line.

A freelance contractor since 2018, I’d now love an opportunity to join or lead a creative team in an environment where my integrated skills will be a valuable asset and my experience helps mentor and inspire those around me.
